LIVE SPACE #2 Closing concerts of the international creative workshop

Location: Lukiškių Prison 2.0 (Lukiškių str. 6)

The LIVE SPACE project coordinated by the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre is an international creative workshop designed to offer training for performers and creators of electronic and electroacoustic music, addressing the demands of the changing society. The main focus of the project is on equipping participants with the skills and practical knowledge necessary for creating and performing electroacoustic music in different spaces with different 3D audio setups. It emphasizes the development of artistic projects and co-creation, exploring the role of musicians as contributors to society and cultural landscapes. LIVE SPACE is structured to accommodate the open, creative nature of participants from diverse artistic backgrounds. The workshop aims to blend different skills pertinent to electronic and electroacoustic composers/performers. Over eight days in Vilnius, students from participating institutions have the opportunity to make use of hands-on learning and to perform in various venues across the city engaging with different contexts and spatial audio environments. Performances are designed to facilitate mutual support and co-creation among students. Participating schools for this year include the Royal Danish Academy of Music (Copenhagen), the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (Tallinn), the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts in Helsinki (Finland), Oulu University of Applied Sciences (Finland), the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (Vilnius), the Norwegian Academy of Music (Oslo), the Grieg Academy of Music of the University of Bergen (Norway), the Academy of Music and Drama of the University of Gothenburg (Sweden), and Malmo Academy of Music (Sweden). The LIVE SPACE concerts on April 27 and 28 will showcase the outcomes of these creative projects. Students’ works will be presented in five different locations, allowing for a diverse range of engaging performances. These concerts will not only serve as a platform for student presentations but also as a venue for discussion, evaluation, and reflection among peers and teachers.

Supervised by Matthias Kronlachner (Syng), Jussi Tuohino (Oulu University of Applied Sciences)

During LIVE SPACE Workshops as part of Jauna Muzika Festival, our group Lumi Mannermaa, Liutauras Baltrūnas, Snorre Laugerud, Basti Kuhz, Jussi Tuohino and Matthias Kronlachner went to jail. We were sentenced to a 5 days penalty behind the bars for making music and art in public. The judge placed us in Lukiškės Prison. Some of us risked their lives and smuggled a recorder in their prison pocket into the cells. The time was harsh and we felt on our own bodies how life must have been in the 1900s when the prison was built. We collected voices of the contemporary soundscape deep inside the prison and with these we made an audible journey through time until an unpredictable future. Say goodbye to your loved ones, hear the handcuffs clicking and enter the prison for the ambisonical live electronic music performance “After Bars Before”.
